Tips & Tricks for Hiking with Your Dog

Whether you enjoy the great outdoors or your dog has too much energy, hiking is a great way to stay active and explore, for both you and your dog. However, preparation and practice are required before hitting the terrain in order to ensure feelings of success and enjoyment for both your dog and you.

Leash Training. Ensuring your dog is close by helps ensure their safety, as well as courtesy to fellow hikers or dogs that may be uncomfortable with dogs. If there are off-leash areas be sure that you have established reliable recall skills.

Extra Leads & Poop Bags.
Different lead options are handy while guiding your dog through a variety of terrains, and poop bags are a must.

First Aid Kit.
Carry a first aid kit, as accidents are bound to happen from time to time.

Water & Food.
Pack enough that your pet has enough energy and stays hydrated to endure the trek. Collapsible bowls make this a breeze.

Pack Training. Hiking with your dog has baggage. Training your dog to carry a pack is a great way to share the responsibility!

Plan Your Route. Looking at trail maps beforehand allows you to plan to fit both yours and your dog’s energy levels and stamina, as well as avoid getting lost. Most importantly it’s critical to confirm that dogs are allowed, as not all hiking trails are dog-friendly.

Taking precautions prior to trekking trails alongside your dog is the best way to make the most of each and every adventure.
