Why you should never have a stare down with your cat

This month’s tip is all about how you look at your cat.

I want you to know that looking into your cat’s eyes and staring is a confrontational gesture to cats.

Break the Gaze

So if you see your cat staring at you, break that gaze. Or better yet, do something like give them a treat that will stop the staring.

Because when two cats stare at one another intently, that’s a confrontational gesture between them that says, “I’m about to do something. I’m about to attack you. I’m about to express my discomfort with you.”

Give Him Some Love

So if your cat is staring at you, he probably wants you to do something. So go ahead and do something fun like give him a treat. And break that gaze so you don’t come back repeating or reflecting that confrontational gesture with him.

Until next time, keep calm and purr on!
