Why cats make great pets

Cats aren’t always given the credit they deserve. They are often seen as aloof and perhaps a little snotty, especially if the person describing them is a hardcore dog lover. The truth is, cats make wonderful pets, and they are certainly a better choice for some people. Here are a few great reasons why cats make great pets.

They’ll keep the mice away

No one likes pests in the home, and mice have a habit of showing up even when you keep things clean and tidy. If they come into a home with a cat however, those mice will have regrets. Despite thousands of years of domestication, cats are still top class predators and will hunt when given the chance.

They’re purrfect apartment pets

Dogs need a certain amount of exercise and room in order to be happy. While there are breeds of dog that enjoy apartment life, cats excel at it. Most cats are fine with never going outside at all, as long as their needs for enrichment are met, which makes them perfect if you live in a place with limited access to green space.

They cost less

Cats rarely need grooming if ever, they won’t be needing any obedience courses, and their other bills are often cheaper too. If you want all the love but perhaps less expense, a cat may well be a good choice.

They’re low maintenance

Cats still have needs—they want to spend time with you, they need to be fed and watered, but they don’t have quite the needs of dogs. While your dog friends are shivering their way through the dog’s evening walk, you’ll be snuggled on the couch binge watching Netflix with your furbaby. 

Cats may be more independent than a dog, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Cats are awesome pets, and there’s no end to the reasons why.
