What To Do if Your Boyfriend Doesn’t Like Your Pet?
Your pet is your baby and it’s difficult to see how anyone couldn’t love him or her. Afterall, isn’t your furbaby just the cutest? Unfortunately, there are some people who don’t share this same sentiment. To each his own, but when your significant other has an issue with your pet, it can be a problem. What do you do if you love your pet, but your boyfriend doesn’t?
Find Out Why Your Partner Doesn’t Like Your Pet
Before you make any tough decision, ask your boyfriend why he doesn’t like your pet. Is it because he is allergic? If so, there are allergy medications, air purifiers, and great vacuum cleaners that might solve the issue. Does your pet behave badly around him? In that case, invest in some training classes. Does he just not like animals? Maybe your boyfriend doesn’t like animals because he never grew up around them. Asking your boyfriend to spend more time with your pet so he can get to know them might do the trick.
Compromise Is Necessary
No matter what the reason is that your boyfriend dislikes your pet, compromises will need to be made on both sides for the relationship to work. If your boyfriend can not get used to your pet either because of allergies or a strong dislike for animals, you may have to split your time between them. Keep your pet in a separate room when your boyfriend comes over or ask a friend to pet sit when you want to spend a weekend together. While the situation may not be ideal, it may be the best you can do besides getting rid of your pet. Your boyfriend should understand this and be willing to make compromises of his own. Unless he has a serious allergy to your pet, it won’t kill him to hang out with your pet every once in a while.
Should You Get Rid of Your Pet or Your Boyfriend?
If your boyfriend is not willing to compromise, then you may want to reconsider your relationship. Your pet has been in your life longer than your boyfriend and they depend on you. Pet owners know that our animals are family and you don’t just get rid of your family. Someone who truly cared for you would be understanding of this and willing to work with you. If your boyfriend won’t make the effort to be with you, then maybe he doesn’t really want to be with you. In that case, you are better off finding someone who not only cares for you but also your pet. There are plenty of animal lovers out there, your boyfriend just doesn’t happen to be one of them. Keep your pet, ditch the boyfriend, and find love with someone better.
