Pet Candy's favorite things

Want to learn a totally wild fact?

The earth is 4.5 billion years old. Additionally, our planet is home to over two million animal species, and this number is most likely an undercount.

Yet despite being so ancient and magnificent, us humans don’t have the best track record when it comes to taking care of the planet. Pollution, burning fossils fuels, deforestation…indeed, Mother Earth could really benefit from a little more thoughtfulness on our part.

The good news is, being an eco-friendly pet owner is easy!

Today on Pet Candy, we go over 5 favorite planet-friendly pet products we love (and think you will, too!)

1.  Earth Rated Compostable Dog Poop Bags

Are you a dog parent?

If yes, then you surely know the struggle of finding good doggy poop bags. There are dozens on the market. But you want something that is strong, easy to open/tie, and doesn’t break the bank. Even better if it’s eco-friendly.

Enter, Earth Rated Compostable Dog Poop Bags.

These are amazing because they keep garbage out of landfills. As the name implies, they are compostable. Made from a blend of PBAT and vegetable starches, used waste bags can be dropped off at approved municipal compost environments. And, just because they are compostable doesn’t mean you can leave them on the path, you still have to toss them in a compost area.

Think about all the bags you’ll save from the landfill each year. Amazing!

2.  Bamboo Pet Beds

Next up is a bamboo pet bed.

Unlike most commercially produced pet beds, these ones are made from sustainable materials such as bamboo, organic cotton, linen, and hemp. Polyester filling is difficult to break down. When a bed is outgrown or worn out, it gets tossed into the garbage, where unfortunately it sits for long periods of time, clogging up space.

Another reason to choose bamboo?

Consider this: on average, a dog will sleep for between 12 – 14 hours a day. The last thing you want is your fur baby to be breathing in toxic chemicals, right? No way!

Check the label before you buy.

3.  Sustainable Kitty Litter

For cat owners, kitty litter comes with the territory.

However, just because your feline friend needs a spot to go potty indoors, doesn’t mean we don’t have environmentally conscious options. Keep in mind that most kitty litter is not biodegradable. Similarly, those plastic bins, poop scoops, and liners take thousands of years to decompose and release toxic chemicals that eventually seep into soil and waterways.

Or you can go with a more planet-friendly choice.

For example, try any of the following:

·      Store bought eco-friendly kitty litter

·      Wood shavings

·      Sand

·      Sawdust

·      Old newspapers

·      Small mammal bedding

4.  Brave Paws

Lastly, how could we not mention Brave Paws?

Sourced using sustainable methods, this incredible plant-based chewable is improving the lives of anxious dogs everywhere. Not only does it contain extracts from the Souroubea plant, but Brave Paws also prides itself on being cultivated via an environmentally conscious and woman-led co-op in rural Costa Rica.

It’s the perfection combination for your pooch – eco-friendly and effective.

Final Thoughts

There are countless reasons to opt for planet-friendly pet products.

Remember, these benefit everyone, human and pup. Eco-friendly products tend to last longer, be made from higher-quality materials, and won’t trigger allergies or skin conditions. So, if your pet is sensitive to chemicals, perfumes, and mass-produced products (and you care about the environment) going green could be good for both you and your pet!
