4 exotic animals that make great pets

These days, people love owning exotic pets. Exotic pets can be fun to own if you or your family have no interest in cats or dogs, but you want to own a pet. Now, when it comes to owning exotic animals, they’re not all legal to own as household pets. Please make sure to do your research to ensure you aren’t purchasing a pet that’s illegal to own in your state.

If you’ve been thinking of purchasing some sort of exotic animal, we definitely recommend it! Having an exotic animal is super cool and no matter what kind of animal you get, they’ll always be your best friend.

Here are 4 exotic pets you can own:

1.    Bearded Dragon

This is a very common type of exotic animal that people own as pets. The bearded dragon originated in Australia and is now a common household pet in all of the United States. This is a great option of a pet for younger children because bearded dragons are very calm animals and they are super easy to care for – all they require is food, water, and a big enough space for them to roam around. Believe it or not, bearded dragons love to be held and shown affection. They are legal in all of the U.S., so you don’t need to worry about anything!

2.    Fennex Fox

Originating from Africa, a fennec fox makes a great, loving, and adorable house pet! They are known for being the smallest breed of fox and they only reach about 4 pounds when full-grown. They act similarly to dogs and cats and are very playful – a great option if you have children that are very active and are looking for a furry companion. They are also legal to own in all of the U.S.

3.    Python

All they are the safest animals to own, they are legal to own in most states, except Florida, NY, Hawaii, and some California cities. If you’ve always wanted to own a snake, this is the best option. Pythons are much smaller than boas, but they can still reach up to 3-4 feet long, living an average of 20-30 years. They are easy to take care of and only need a proper and secure cage, food, and an environment made for the breed.

4.    Potbellied Pig

A potbelly pig can be a great exotic household pet, but not for everyone. You need to educate yourself on how to properly care for them, or you could run into some major issues. Potbellied pigs are smart and emotional animals that can make for a great house pet. They love to snuggle with their humans, go for walks, and getting brushed. They’re basically like dogs just less hairy (well, sometimes!).

Owning an exotic pet can be a lot of fun for you and your family. When looking to purchase an exotic pet, we always recommend doing your research so you can ensure you can care for them properly. More importantly, you should check with your local government before purchasing to ensure it’s legal to them own the pet in your state. Exotic pets can make for great companions just as any household pet does!
