Steps you can take when you’re having an “off” day

Have you ever woken up on the wrong side of the bed? Everything you do seems to go wrong, and it feels like the only solution is to just go back to bed and try again tomorrow. These days happen, but there are actionable steps you can take to help.

Do an easy task

If you’re struggling and falling short at everything, crossing something off your list can help make you feel better. Shoot for an easy task that needs done but you know you can do no matter what. Even if the only thing you get done is making your own bed, you’ll feel better for having gotten something done.

Provide yourself a small comfort

Sometimes hitting the reset button is as easy as relaxing. Try taking a warm shower, going for a walk, or spending a little time away from people. By taking a step back, it’s sometimes possible to feel better about your day and get back to normal.

If you are the primary caretaker for kids or at a busy office, it can be hard to get those few minutes by yourself. If you can’t be alone, it may be worth taking the kids to the park where you can at least have thoughts to yourself, or taking your lunch break out of the office.

Go to bed early

We all feel off from time to time. One of the best solutions is to ‘just go back to bed’ and turn in early. You may get better sleep than you did the night before. If nothing else, your off day will be over and you can wake up with a new day.

Off days happen, and they can really disrupt our lives. While it’s not always possible to change a bad day, you can take actionable steps to try and improve on what is happening. If nothing else, you can get through the day knowing you did your best to change your day and make it better.
