Our list of favorite pet names

Naming the newest furry addition to your family is one of the most exciting parts of getting a new pet! But with a whole world of endless possibilities to choose from, it can also be the most difficult. What name suits them? Do I even like this name? Will I get sick of it? These are questions that might go through your mind as you are brainstorming a name for your new friend. However, this post is here to help! Below, you’ll find some easy prompts to get you thinking and some pet-owner-approved suggestions to help you find the perfect name.

Brainstorming Prompts

It is easy to feel completely overwhelmed by the number of potential names out there. So, here are some guiding questions and prompts to get you thinking and narrowing down those options.

Does your pet have any endearing physical attributes?

There are tons of cute names that are related to the physical attributes of pets. Some examples include Raven for a raven-black cat, Butterscotch for a ginger tabby, or Spot for a dalmatian pup. Though these names may be simple, sometimes naming a pet after their appearance can be the most wholesome and, not to mention, easy to remember names.

Does your pet resemble any of your favorite characters?

With so many iconic pets on television and in movies, it is a great idea to name your pet after one of your favorites. This could be Snoopy for nostalgic holiday specials, Garfield for everyone’s favorite lasagna lover, or Winn-Dixie for your favorite childhood story.

Does your pet have any quirky personality traits?

Sometimes, a pet’s personality will speak for itself. If your dog is a lovable, friendly pet, try Buddy on for size. Or maybe your inactive, sleepy cat would make for a good Lazy. Or if you have a sneaky, cunning cat with a tendency to disappear, try Shadow.
