Zofia Pawelska: Animal Activist and Founder of Lab Rescue
Who is Zofia Pawelska?
This 22-year-old is the founder of a Polish not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to rehoming animals who were used or were going to be used in scientific testing. Zofia has been working on her organization for the last two years and has created relationships with science labs to help these animals get adopted. Animal testing has been a big movement for animal activists, and it’s amazing to see what Zofia is doing for these animals.
What does she do?
Zofia takes rats from science laboratories and connects them with people looking to adopt them. It’s an amazing organization since rats aren’t the most popular home pets. These rats deserve good, loving homes especially after everything they go through in those labs.
Zofia says that people in Poland are starting to become more aware of this issue and that people adopting these animals is becoming more popular. She has encouraged thousands of people to adopt animals rather than buying from a breeder or pet store. Her organization, Lab Rescue is working to close the gap between labs that want to avoid euthanasia for their animals, and giving them new and loving homes.
“Before Lab Rescue, laboratory animals were forgotten about, but now I can see that it’s common to have a rat rescued from a laboratory, not bought from a shop.” Says Zofia when asked about her purpose with Lab Rescue.
Why she started this movement
Zofia has been an animal activist for quite some time now, and she always knew what labs did with their rats when they no longer needed them and she wanted to make a change and help those rats get to the lives they deserved. She knew they deserved more than that after everything they get put through, and that’s where Lab Rescue was formed.
Her mission with this organization was to help these animals and connect them with homes that would give them the lives they deserved. “Stay strong and follow your ideas and dreams. There will be tough moments, but we are fighting for creatures who can’t fight for themselves, so we must stay strong and determined.” Zofia said when asked what her purpose was with her animal rights movement and the formation of her organization.
Not everyone is a fan of rats, but they are still animals who deserve the best lives. Our animals help to make this planet work and survive, so we all need to do what we can to keep them safe and healthy.
