The Great Work of Greta Thunberg

Who is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist who is known worldwide for the amazing work she does for our planet.  She loves to challenge world leaders to take immediate action against one of the biggest issues our planet faces – climate change.

When Greta was just 15 years old, she started a school strike to gain attention on our climate crisis, and since then her message has spread worldwide and everyone knows who she is and what she stands for, they even made a movie on her! She also was awarded TIME’s Person of the Year award back in 2019 – that’s pretty amazing for someone her age!

What does she do?

Greta now uses her social media platform to spread awareness of the dangers of the daily activities we do that affect our planet and how it shortens the life of it. Her passion for helping the environment started when she was very young, and she hasn’t given up since.

She started out skipping school, going on strike and she spent her days staked out in front of the Swedish Parliament with a sign saying, “School Strike for Climate”. Since then, she has had meetings with some pretty important people such as the heads of state at the U.N., the pope, and even the President of the United States. Greta has inspired millions of people to join her strike against climate control throughout the world – in September of 2019, her along with 4 million people worldwide has the largest climate demonstration in human history.

This worldwide strike helped Greta gain the momentum she was looking for, and now everyone is much more conscious of their daily habits than they were before. People are finding alternative ways to get to work, recycling more, using less plastic, and creating less waste that will end up in our landfills.

Why did she start this movement?

Greta knew that climate control was a much bigger issue than most officials let us think. She knew there was a need to educate people on the harm we bring to our planet daily, and she knew she had to do something about it.

Being so young and having so much power is an amazing thing, and Greta is a great example of how we should all strive to be. She stated in an interview with TIMES magazine that “We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow.”, and we couldn’t agree more. Greta’s school strikes were the push the world needed to educate ourselves on climate control and how it will affect our futures, and now that all of our eyes are open, we can do better for ourselves and our planet.
