Meet the Critter Fixers, Dr. Hodges and Dr. Ferguson
What do you call somebody who heals animals?
A veterinarian, right?
Well, yes…unless your name happens to be Dr. Vernard Hodges or Dr. Terrence Ferguson. In that case, please refer to them both as “critter fixers!”
Together, the pair owns and operates Critter Fixer Veterinary Hospitals, located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia. Between emergency visits to the office and farm calls throughout rural Georgia, the Critter Fixers are constantly bombarded with unique cases you only see in the country – like treating a turtle with a Vitamin A deficiency, rushing to save a fox's leg, and helping baby goats in distress.
Working side by side, they bravely go wherever the critters need fixing!
Now, the Tuskegee University veterinary graduates are National Geographic and Disney+ stars sharing their inspiring message and passion for animal care with the world.
Pet Candy loves watching this dynamic veterinary doctor duo on television and is “paw-stive” you will too. Today, it is our pleasure to introduce Dr. Hodges and Dr. Ferguson of Critter Fixers!
From Humble Beginnings to Nat Geo Wild, Hulu, and Disney+ Stars
Three seasons is a long time for a show to run.
In fact, the vast majority of television shows don’t make it past their first year. But when the audience craves more, you give it to them. And in the case of Critter Fixers: Country Vets, the people have clearly spoken: more, more, more!
Yet it’s been a long and interesting road.
For Dr. Hodges, growing up on a small farm in Peach County with goats, cows, dogs, a cat, turtles, and countless other pets is where he first found a passion for nurturing and taking care of animals.
Similarly, Dr. Terrence Ferguson calls Georgia home. When rescuing neighborhood strays in Talbotton became more than just a hobby, his family encouraged him to volunteer at local clinics and eventually, he embarked on a career in Veterinary Medicine.
Boom.
The dream team was born.
Together, Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Hodges built their business from the ground up. Believe it or not, the first practice was in an old 800-square-foot paint shop – and they constructed most of the exam rooms, tables, etc. themselves! By providing excellent care and compassionate service to their patients, news spread about two veterinarians who delivered high-quality services at fair value in a friendly and professional environment where clients feel like family.
It wasn’t long before the rest of the world would get to watch along from home.
As one Nat Geo TV reviewer wrote, “Randomly stumbled upon this show while browsing through Disney+. I LOVE the essence of this show and how the vets and their techs are all so compassionate.”
Inspiring the Next Generations of Veterinarians
Yet as proud as Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Hodges are of their TV and clinic success stories, it is inspiring the next generation of children and teens that they view as one of their biggest accomplishments.
From giving talks to hosting school visits, they are teaching kids that no matter the obstacles, becoming a veterinarian is possible.
Dr. Ferguson even wrote a book about it. “C is for Critter Fixer” tells the story of Terry, an African American boy who is influenced and inspired by different factors to dream of being something that seemed far-fetched: practicing veterinary medicine.
With three seasons behind them and more exciting news on the horizon, we cannot wait to see what Dr. Hodges and Dr. Ferguson come up with next!
