Celeste Tinajero – Helping our Environment

Who is Celeste Tinajero?

Celeste first joined the world of saving our environment when her oldest brother started an Eco Warriors club at their high school. Celeste and her brother’s mission with their group was the make a lasting impact on their school and receive grant money through a local organization, GREEN Nevada. They planned to use their grant to make their school more sustainable. They ended up winning the grant money and they put the money towards updating the school bathrooms to make them much more eco-friendly.

What does she do?

Celeste fought hard to make her high school a much more sustainable school – she wanted to lower the amount of water they used daily, and decrease the amount of plastic waste they had. She worked with the Eco Warrior group to form their school into a highly sustainable school by upgrading the bathrooms and installing a Brita Hydration Station that decreases the number of plastic water bottles students used.

Now, Celeste is the Education Program Manager for a local non-profit organization called Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. She created a curriculum on how to create a more sustainable lifestyle and she encourages people every day to jump on board.

“I have the opportunity to teach and inspire local students, residents, and businesses about how important it is to live a sustainable life and the health hazards of litter and illegal dumping and waste reduction,” Celeste stated in an interview with Teen Vogue.

Why did she start this movement?

Celeste didn’t know about the dangers the environment faces every day until she was in high school, so that’s where she focuses her attention. She noticed a need to educate young individuals on the dangers of pollution, climate change, and she turned her passion into teaching them how to live sustainably. Teaching kids at a young age is the best way to go about making an actual change in the world, and Celeste knew that.

In a recent interview, Celeste was talking about how she never worried about funding for her projects, because she knew saving our planet was worth whatever she needed to do. She stated “Don’t hesitate and don’t worry about funding. Work with a group of hardworking, willing, and determined people. Create a compelling and efficient plan, and the rest will follow.”

Celeste knew her movement was worthwhile, and she put her all into it and knew people who follow her. Her efforts were so powerful that she ended up receiving a Golden Pinecone Award for Youth Environmental leadership as well as a Brower Youth Award for all the hard work and effort she put into this cause.
